Umbrellas vs. Suicide Bombers
By Noah Shachtman EmailJune 30, 2008 | 12:18:00 PMCategories: Bizarro, T is for Terror
Our friends at Neatorama have assembled a list of the "Top 10 Strangest Anti-Terrorism Patents." And while not all of 'em are Osama-stoppers, per se, they all are pretty damn funny. Especially this "explosion containment net," patented by one O. Alan Breazeale on Feburary 15, 2005. "It may look like an umbrella, but that's actually a kevlar net fired from a special gun to encapsulate and contain a bomb's blast," Neatorama notes. "The net also contains a tube for dispensing fire suppressant agent (the tank is worn on the back of the net operator in Figures 6 and 7 above). Plus, it's "great for fishing or tackling."
Quick question: Why does Breazeale's suicide bomber look like he's dressed for a Santana concert, circa '72?
