hmmmm.... eh I havent had any problem at all with mine running it with the grafix at the max
They have gone backwards on making this game from console based to computer based platform. there has been over 100 complaints as well as myself having my computer crash on me for trying to put the video graphics to max even though my computer is built for gaming and everything is up to date on my desktop computer!
So don't buy BattleField: Bad Company2 just yet!

it crashes my whole computer whenever I try and play it, after the screen stalls and has a jagged neon color distortion, sometimes its wavey and the other times is just like parts of jagged broken cubic glass with neon changing pink colors. I didn't have this problem when i first started. i was playing to the max settings and all that to rank 11, now i cant do shit b/c it crashes my computer and the EA support geeks dont know squat on how to help me fix it.
Ive also gone through at least 4-5 Live Chats with EA support and they all give me the same crap. latest one was "well your dxdiag doesnt show and video cards so you will need to contact your computer manufacturer." I custom built the freakn thing! if you didnt read the computer specs.... RAWR!

Using ATI?
The neon bullshit is a graphical error.
Its a memory fualt loading into the GFX card.
launch it, go to task manager, kill it, reluanch, good to go.
Also, Verify Game Cache integrity.
YOu might have the old version of engineloader 0X9, which loads the graphical content in your system.
Win7 is really bad with this for some reason.
In your Documents and settings/BFBC2/ folder, open settings.cfg
* if you do not have it, create it*
and paste in this.

Yes, its all low quality.
I want you to play a map, and see if it crashes.
Yes its DX9.
For no anyway =D
If it doesnt crash, increase the detail tab one at a time, until you get to HIGH for each one. Play a single map after each change.
Once it start crashing, note the results and post it back..
Oh and update all your current drivers.
NVIDIA and ATI bopther released updates that help with BFBC2.
The ati one resolves memorycall 0x499D in BFBC2.
Thats the internal code, and its relaly an issue since the newer ATI cards use gddr5.

Here's what I posted on the EA Battlefield: Bad Company 2 help forum,
Since i bought the game CD for PC, i have had no problems what so ever with the graphics up to maximum and playing fine all the way up to rank11, singleplayer or online multiplayer.
NOW i cannot play in single player or online multiplayer because it crashes my entire computer system while it creates a jagged neon different color distortion screen and forces me to restart my computer! this all started around 4/20/10, right before i left for the weekend and just got my veterans M1 Garand after talking to EA Live Chat support around 2 different times. I've talked to EA Live Chat Support on this matter for about 4-5 times now and they don't know what the heck is wrong. most recent helpful comment i got was after i sent him or her my Dxdiag was, "your dxdiag does not show your video card details, you will need to contact your computer manufacturer." I built my computer for gaming, it is well over the minimum requirements. my video card driver is up to date (NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT - SLI), my computers operating system has the latest windows update (Windows Vista Ultimate 64bit).
It has nothing to do with the firewall since my security asked me if i wanted to Block or Unblock, which i chose to unblock. I've emptied all my temp folders, and none of my background tasks are/would affect the game because it was running fine with what I had running before. And not to long ago, it had started crashing with stalled screen of jagged different neon color distortions even when I wasn't running my BattleField: Bad Company 2 game at all. I've uninstalled the game 2 different times now.
Recently I believe i found the cause of the crash which was when i started it after i reinstalled the game and went to settings and changed the video settings the max again because it ran perfect before,i was already in an online server after i did the change and returned to gameplay and within half a minute it crashed when I closed the main menu. It does the same thing in Singleplayer too. So i uninstalled it again and reinstalled and now I can't even see any online Multiplayer games nor will it give me the option for EA Game servers or to "check" the different boxes, it only gives the remaining options, but i can only "X".
Oh and I've also tried running it in Compatibility Mode and it still crashes my whole desktop computer with different jagged neon color distortions on my screen.
So at the moment my $52.00USD (tax included) for BattleField: Bad Company 2 PCDVD-ROM is going to waste because they released it for Console and tried to convert it over to PC base platform and don't know what the heck is wrong with my junk and can't help me on this issue from what I've been told over Support.
I ask you guys if you can help me in anyway, I would appreciate it!
*P.S.- I love this game guys, I'm a diehard Battlefield fan all the way. I want to play this game and I want it to succeed, but not if it's going to cause my game to collect dust sitting in its original game case.

From your post, you stated you only have the option for "X"
Your game is corrupt.
Uninstall BFBC2
Delete all files and folders related.
Go to options, show hidden., Do a search for the battlefield folders./
Delete those as well.
Launch REGEDIT
Search for "DICE" and "Battlefieldbadcompany" and "bfbc2"
Delete all entries.
Reinstall the game.
Post your results.

Also comes to my attention.
You said you play with a 8800 in SLI.
BFBC2 minimum is this.
- Minimum:
- OS: Windows XP
- Processor: Core 2 Duo @ 2.0GHz
- Memory: 2GB
- Graphics: 256 MB Video Card (GeForce 7800 GT / ATI X1900)
- DirectX®: DirectX 9, 10, and 11 support
- Hard Drive: 15 GB
- Your scraping the bottom of the bucket with the 8800.
EA recommend the
Processor: Intel Core 2 Quad or higher
Memory: 2GB
Graphics: 512 MB Video Card (GeForce GTX 260/ ATI Radeon 4870)
GTX260.
Assuming 1 8800 can run at minimum, that doesnt mean the next card will allow it to run at high.
2 8800's in SLI will only get to "medium" textures.
