are you set on intel? cause you could get more with amd for what your spending there
im going to update my 6 year old rig and kinda want to see what people think about my choices on hardware before i buy
here are the links to the shit im looking at getting this weekend:
Newegg.com - CORSAIR XMS3 8GB (2 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2000 (PC3 16000) Desktop Memory Model CMX8GX3M2A2000C9
Newegg.com - Intel Core i7-2600 Sandy Bridge 3.4GHz (3.8GHz Turbo Boost) 4 x 256KB L2 Cache 8MB L3 Cache LGA 1155 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor BX80623I72600
Newegg.com - ASUS P8P67 PRO (REV 3.0) LGA 1155 Intel P67 SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard with UEFI BIOS
$677 bucks
dont really want to go much over that so let me know what you guys think
thanks
sio
Newegg.com - Open Box: ASUS Crosshair V Formula AM3+ AMD 990FX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Gaming Motherboard with 3-Way SLI/CrossFireX Support and UEFI BIOS
Newegg.com - AMD Phenom II X6 1100T Black Edition Thuban 3.3GHz, 3.7GHz Turbo 6 x 512KB L2 Cache 6MB L3 Cache Socket AM3 125W Six-Core Desktop Processor HDE00ZFBGRBOX
Newegg.com - CORSAIR Vengeance 12GB (3 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2000 (PC3 16000) Desktop Memory Model CMZ12GX3M3A2000C10
$560.97 and you get more processor, and more memory
if you went with a quad core its about 75 cheaper unless you went with this quad core
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819103934 then its only 20 cheaper
personally I would choose amd over intel any day of the week, but Im almost like you are with amd... I havent had a lot of dealings with intel (what little I did have wasnt good)
one thing i have to have is reg pci slots for my scsi card, the drives host all of my files for our servers and mods and website. also my soundcard is pci
maybe something like this
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813131733
ah I see.... well how many regular pci slots you need?
Newegg.com - ASRock Fatal1ty 990FX Professional AM3+ AMD 990FX SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX AMD Motherboard
this one has 2 regular pci slots but Ive never actually owned a asrock mb so Im just going by the reviews
i like the reviews on that and the comparisons to asus makes it sound even better
ok so after a long debate with myself while working on the gameservers i have come to this setup:
Newegg.com - ASRock Z68 EXTREME4 GEN3 LGA 1155 Intel Z68 HDMI SATA 6Gb/s USB 3.0 ATX Intel Motherboard
Newegg.com - Intel Core i7-2600K Sandy Bridge 3.4GHz (3.8GHz Turbo Boost) 4 x 256KB L2 Cache 8MB L3 Cache LGA 1155 95W Quad-Core Desktop Processor BX80623I72600K
Newegg.com - CORSAIR Vengeance 12GB (3 x 4GB) 240-Pin DDR3 SDRAM DDR3 2000 (PC3 16000) Desktop Memory Model CMZ12GX3M3A2000C10
this should be good for another 6 yrs lol
thanks to those who actually took the time to post in this thread

I would have posted but you really don't want my advice when it comes computers. The only thing I know about RAM is that ender and pasties seem to know how to do it and they do it well
